Time Travel

If time travel was a thing and we could wind the clock forward a couple of months to the end of March 2024 you would find us packing the van ready for our next big adventure. Baku. Baku and back. And maybe Baku and beyond and back.

How far east we get will be subject to the whims of a 55 year old van and the machinations of a 71 year old dictator. A lot could change between now and then. But what ever we will be ready. Ready to go somewhere. Ready to embrace all that the world has to offer us. Ready to be challenged by the differences encountered while travelling.

We will use the next few weeks wisely to continue working on the van. She’s booked in for an MOT this week. Most jobs are done and the excitement is building. We’ve been trawling the internet looking for hard to find parts for the van. After 55 years many of the perishables that make the van work are tired and have a tendency to fail. Many have been replaced.

The most common question people ask me when they hear we are off on a sabattical is “what’s the plan?” The answer is quite simple – Baku is the plan. We don’t know if we will stop when we get to Baku, or whether we will cross the Caspian sea and continue into Kazakhstan – I’m up for it – I’d love to follow the silk road further east. How cool would it be, to drive all the way to Tibet? Maybe not a question we will answer this year – we will see.

What we do know though is that we won’t plan a route and try and for-see all the steps needed to get to Baku. Instead we will embrace everything that the world has to offer.

We can’t wait

    1. Thank you – just under two weeks until we go – so we’ve been busy preparing – so will do a lot more writing once we are on the road and have more time and space
